The St. Louis native, Joe Torry is one of the most memorable comedians from HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and hascontinued making audiences laugh on stage and at the box office for over 30 years in Hollywood.
Torry has carved a solid niche for himself with his unique style of comedy and spontaneous audience-driven performances. In 2006, Torry was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside legends such as Richard Pryor, George Carlin, and Jerry Lewis. In 2017, he received the Robin Harris Legend Honor Award at the LOL Comedy Honors.
His television credits include “E.R.,” “NYPD Blue,” “Dangerous Minds,” “Navy NCIS,” and “The Jump Off,” a spin-off of the “Zane Chronicles.”
Torry has also starred in several box office films including House Party 1 & 3 alongside Martin Lawrence, Strictly Business with Halle Berry, Tales from the Hood, Motives 1 & 2, Mansfield 12, Sprung starring Tisha Campbell, and his notable role in John Singleton’s Poetic Justice featuring Janet Jackson, Regina King, and Tupac Shakur.
A proud St. Louis native and “military brat,” Joe Torry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications and Broadcast Journalism from Lincoln University, as well as an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters for his contributions to the entertainment industry.
